Swimwear shopping doesn’t have to be dreadful. To make the process more fun (or at least tolerable) here are some tips to keep in mind when planning a shopping trip.
Remember to think beyond the change room. Think about where you’ll be wearing the suit and visualize yourself in the sun enjoying yourself. Whether on the beach or by the pool think about the warm water and how great you’ll feel in your vacation surroundings. If you are in the right mental state when you begin your shopping it will help you find that perfect suit!
It’s always a good idea to have something in mind when you walk in the shop but keep an open mind to some of the different styles available as well. Sometimes a swimsuit that looks boring on the hanger can be a pleasant surprise once you try it on. Don’t be afraid to try on a selection of styles and colours and bra-sized suits as well which can give great coverage and support if you have a larger bust.
Here’s a guide to body shape and what flatters the best.
PETITE: Wear moulded cups, smaller prints, and skimpier tops and bottoms. Too much coverage can overwhelm your figure.
LARGE-BUSTED: Look for cup-sized swimwear. Underwire or banded halters. Fuller cuts work best on the bottom.
APPLE-SHAPED: Halter necklines give shape to your bust and hips. Higher necklines will elongate your torso.
PEAR-SHAPED: The best way to achieve balance is to wear a bandeau on top and French-cut bottoms. Halters accentuate the ‘triangle’ look.
ATHLETIC: Halters and hipsters add curve to a boyish figure. Bandeaus and boy shorts can flatten you out.
Enjoy your shopping!
